I just picked up a Veloster N Racing Red today
My daily is a 2003 E46 BMW 325i with 225,000 miles on it which is why I was shopping for a new daily driver. I don't want another $1k+ repair...
It has been hard over the years because most cars don't handle like the E46. The Alfa Romeo Gulia and Genesis G70 were there in the handling department. But the Gulia is not available in manual and the manual in the G70 is terrible.
I then started looking at hot hatches - Golf GTI, Civic SI etc. Civic Type-R at +$10K was out so I started looking for a Veloster N after all the great reviews. First dealer had none but they had a Veloster Spec-R. I took the Spec-R for a drive and holy **** that is a great and fun handling car! Much better than the Golf GTI. This is coming from a hard core autocrosser who owns a 2012 NC Miata and 2017 ND Miata setup setup in STR Trim (IHE, Tune, Suspension).
That same dealer had a Blue Veloster N arrive a few days later. I went to test drive it. I did not rev it high since I could be buying it but I did toss it into some corners pretty fast. Wow! another step up from the Spec-R. But the dealer wanted $5K over MSRP. No thanks!
2nd dealer also wanted +$5K. I then located another Racing Red one for MSRP with a few add ons - SWAT Recovery alarm for $795, 3M Sheild Package (door trim, rear bumper) $598, Wheel Locks $55. I got then to at least drop the $795 alarm. So price was $30,573.
The car will mainly be a fun practical daily driver. I will try it at some big track events just to test it . It won't ever replace my ND Miata for autocross. You can't beat a 2200 lb car... But I will do a couple of AX on it just to get used to it at the limit before taking it to the track.
