i have been putting a 8 Ball shifter on just about every manual trans i have ever had including all 4 of my Hyundai's . but i change around a little now and again But has anyone tried to change your shift knob ? it just pulls off it is not threaded on like a normal knob . you can go on ebay and get a oem knob for about 40.00 so i got one to tear down and see in it can be modified for a new custom knob its going to be difficult no matter what you do Ai will send pictures if anyone is interested in this. the skull was on my 13 elantra gt. i used a all rubber knob from a base model elantra it was a litle large so i did not run it long. the other knob i had on my 15 r-spec i hope do do a 8 ball again but i also found a small knot work skull but in a normal knob size .I'll set you all know it progresses.

Actually it will not the shift knob is held in place by a metal pin . the knob sim[ly pulls off . you grab the knob and pull up with a bit bo force and it will POP off. it seems a little silly to me but i got a knob for the 19 N off ebay about 40.00 to see if i could modify the existing knob , it will be difficult to do but it can be done . i dont know if Hyundai did this so you cant replace it with any custom knob out there but it is definitely different

Did you get any pics of the shift knob off the car? Luckily our knobs are round, which is what I usually substitute mine for. But Id like to put some novelty knob on for fun. Is it like a spring loaded pin?

ok so here is what i have 1) this is what it looks like when you pull it off .2)what it looks like after i took it apart 3) is the (female) end which goes down on to the shaft 4) is the cup with weight 5) is the weight in the cup . i am not to hopeful in putting the remains into a shift knob. i have sent a email to epco shift knobs but i haven't heard anything back from them the skull is a possible knob i may put a 2 in hole down into base of the skull and epoxy and maybe get a usable knob out of it. as you could i made one like it before on my 13 elantra gt it was large but looks good . if anyone has a idea let me know

Where is the pin that holds it in place? I'm assuming they are not one use shift knobs and break when taken off are they?

I might order an oem knob and take a 3d scan of it at work so I could cad something up, maybe a universal adapter to a threaded knob.

look in the end of the shaft in the 3rd photo the silver metal pin is there in the shaft it is u shaped and held in place with a plastic piece . when you put the knob back on it slips out slightly and back in place to hold the knob on.

It's actually a spring clip of sorts that settles in a groove in the shaft.
That's why you have to pull hard to get it off.
Looks like the same type as the second generation Genesis Coupe.

I was able to replace mine on the Gen Coupe with a universal type, the ones that come with an assortment of plastic sleeves that go on the shaft and have three set screws.
I replaced the screws with better quality ones and used blue Locktite. The knob stayed firm for over 2 years.

Has ANYONE been able to put **** knob on their N other than that carbon fiber one? Ive been obsessed with the tall teardrop cosmic knobs from billetworkz. Emailed them in hopes of a custom order but nothing yet, and hopes aren't to high.
Someone mentioned these types earlier in the thread (I haven't done any measurements). They'll raise the knob height, obviously.

I guess non-threaded shift knobs are characteristic of BMW and MINI shifters, so maybe look into those and see if they're compatible?
