Right side blind spot detector malfunctioning - where is emitter?

27548 Views 242 Replies 41 Participants Last post by  N_guy_
So my right side blind spot detector in my mirror is on about 50% of the time. Even when I'm lane removed from the edge of the road and no cars in sight.

Really annoying when I go to change lanes and the thing yells at me. Anyway, where is the emitter for this? And is the receiver the same? I wonder if it just needs cleaned?

You mentioned stock wheels are the tires also stock sizes same width and height?
Same size. 235/35 R19 Just the Perelli winter version (studless). Seems crazy that the sensors are so sensitive to just a tiny change.
The width does matter not because of the width itself but because of the weird way the height is a ratio of the width and there is no perfect equivalent for stock width and ratio, so if you deviate which could affect the height due to the height ratio of the new width.
It got me today!
I’m from NYC so I need an all season. I put on Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus tires

Right side BSM malfunctioned immediately.

Fortunately I’m 40 so I remember a time without BSM.

Will just go without since it looks like an official fix will never come.
My winters are stock size tires on the stock wheels, with stock suspension. Just drove to the shop on the summers at about 4 deg C, no issues. Drove away on the winter tires, problem is back again. My summer wheels are 235/40-18.
This is interesting, if the information you gave is correct seems that side wall or wheel size does not matter. Its something to do with All-seasons or Winter tires.

I hope thats not true and a fix is coming. There was a fix released in Canada, don't know why its not here in the States as well. Maybe they tried it there and it failed so they are back to the drawing board.

I doubt they tried it here because when I showed the dealer the TSB from Canada they said it must make it first to the US before they do anything. Since Hyundai ended production I doubt they're doing much at the corporate level, at the dealership level I doubt anyone has done any testing.

I wish this wasn't the case, I have an S5 Sportback and a Rivian R1T, this Veloster is still my favorite car! Just trying to realistic with expectations.

I see. Its odd they have to wait until we get it done here in US before they do anything for your car in Canada. I thought it was the other way around.

Well if Hyundai want do anything about it. Then I guess its left to the world of car modders. Maybe someone will have a fix for it and I will jump on that wagon real quick.
My dealer did the TSB update and the problem is resolved.

Maybe we need to make an organized call to Hyundai corporate to push them to release the TSB in the US.

I doubt they'll seriously listen to the one-off caller here and there.

I just got off the phone with an attorney and there is a Maryland Class action law suite open. I am going to pursue that. I think Hyundai only listens to law suits rather then their customers. I would recommend you contact them and do the same. Maryland Bar.

Edit: I didnt want to go this route. But this is getting ridiculous and I want the features I paid a pretty penny for.

Totally understand, but maybe we can organize a group call to Hyundai corporate. This will also be documented as a communication attempt before any real lawsuits.

I am down for anything at this moment. We can do that as well.
Wanted to add. 235/35 R19.
Stock rims
Stock suspension

Tires have no vibration, excess noise etc. Definitely not an issue with the tires.

Will be stock for life.

As an aside, these tires are way more efficient than the Pirelli. Changed my oil at the same time. Mobil 1 0w-30 AFE.

Just filled the car for the journey north from FL to NYC on Monday. Saw 443 miles to empty. Awesome number. Never seen it above 414.

I include the efficiency report to confirm no issues with anything anywhere else with the car.

Maybe that TSB will come.

Can you clarify what brand and model tires you are using and are you now seeing excessive BSD false positives? Not sure I understand your original post.
Apologies.

I had posted in the thread yesterday or the day before and for some reason it didn’t quote.

I’m using Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus tires. 800 miles on them now, still the same Blind Spot Monitoring issue. Right side light either stays on once the system is on, or stays on once something is detected.

Left side has no issue.

Same measurements as the stock Pirelli’s. 235/35/R19

Yup, same exact tire on stock rims, same issues.
Contact NHTSA and file a consumer complaint report. The more that do, the more likely they’ll have to issue a TSB.👍🇺🇸

Already did that a while ago. I cant believe there isn't more people complaining. Seems that people are driving around with their summer tires on during winter or drive a winter car and parked their VN for the warmer weather.

Edit: OR they havent noticed it/dont care that their BSD is non functional during winter.

The odd thing is my complaint isn't published on their website. Seems they are filtering or do they stop after 3 complaints??!?!
So I found this thread after encounting this issue recently. So my husband recently changed his tires to the continental extreme contact dws and immediately noticed the passenger side BSM was giving false positives. Was hoping to find a solutions but it seems nothing yet. However, there is something I wanted to bring up. I have a 2022 VN and I also had the continentals put on the replace the pirellis. However, I don’t have the BSM issue. (I drive my car more than he does and would have noticed the issue before now especially since I’ve had my tires longer than he has). I was looking back at older posts on this thread and someone asked about mud flaps. Since we both changed out our tires around the same time (give or take a week I believe) the only difference we have why he would be experiencing the BSM issue and I’m not is the mud flaps.
