Either I've lost my mind or it seems like the rear window in particular but also the hatch itself to a lesser extent is practically uncleanable. I wash it and then after drying, there's still a layer of dust. I noticed this too after the dealer washed my car yesterday. Whole car looked clean except the rear. Anyone else?

I notice it's the first to get dirty after driving, probably just the way the airflow over the car works. But if you're saying it's dirty even before driving I'm not sure.

It's just a thing that happens with hatches, be it a compact hatch, wagon, or suv. It's due to the low pressure zone directly behind the hatch and the high pressure zones all around it.

I’ve had good results in reducing this by clay bar’ing including the window to get rid of the contamination. Definitely worth the effort.
