Hello all i purchased my N on January 2. I literally bought it off the delivery truck , i was in the dealership having my 15 r-spec serviced when in comes a delivery truck with my new N on the back traded up to her that day. Been loving her every since . seeing as i dont have the intencion of taking her to a race track or doing auto cross it is the perfect car for me. the differences are only a few. 25 less hp slightly smaller break disc's , fewer changes to choose from in the engine management system , and of course 18 in wheels and tires which is just fine with me. i have had a 0-60 of 5.5 which is astounding i really believe this is the best car i have ever gotten from Hyundai great job on design. Ya'all be cool , ya'hear .

azycray! Glad to hear you are well pleased with your N. I do think the base N is a very good buy and especially when considering dealers are more likely to be marking up the cars with PP and offering a bit of discount from list on the base car. Many nice adds going from the R-Spec to the N....

Question, does the exhaust sound change if you change the engine mode to eco? Curious to see how the base exhaust compares to the PP.
Kinda? There is a change, but it appears to be more of a side effect of dialing everything back performance wise which of course would affect the sound. To the best of my knowledge there is no adjustability in the exhaust of the base model. Further complicating matters is that the car pipes in synthetic 'sound enhancement'. I don't know the engineering behind it, but it makes a great experience driving the car.

The base model in Sport Mode sounds like the, PP in Sport Mode. The base model doesn't have an "active exhaust valve," like performance package N. So when you put the PP in N mode, you get nearly a straight thru exhaust so to speak. There's a big difference!

My VN Base will reliably "pop" in N mode when revving down from anything past 4k.

It does not pop for me in other modes. But TBH, I'm not driving hard except in N and N custom modes. And I like the fact that switching to other modes means the car won't raise eyebrows of neighbor moms and dads who have small kids.

thank you for that reassurance.
I just want a fun car with a manual as I miss driving semi trucks. 250hp is more than enough for me on the streets, but due to biased reviews, no mention of the performance package being the only one with variable exhaust found it’s way to me until recently.
That option is why I started looking for an N to begin with.
If I were a teenager still I’d be all about the exhaust and throwing a sound system in it, not this day and age.
