Has anybody looked into replacing the hood on the VN? I found a carbon fiber hood for it. It's only $900. Think i might put that money into new lighter rims. But looking to shave weight off this car. For being so small its a heavy little thing.

YUP! It's steel 😫 be careful of CF hoods. Many **** companies out there. I too want a lighter hood and battery but may never get to. Track time isnt cheap
Never ran on a track before, or done any any autox, but this car begs for corners. How much is an average cost for track time? I know its going to vary with each track and type but just curious. Not to mention the added cost in tires, possible brake pad change too.

About 500 USD a weekend not including insurance, fuel, food, lodging. Expensive hobby.

Red,

Do you know when that's coming out or have a thereabouts? I'd love a nicely manufactured CF hood. Thx, bud.

Official Hyundai N Performance goodies would be awesome!
This ought to help! Click the right arrow it's in English! The N-Accessory carbon fiber hood, actually has the same style underbracing as the original hood but in Carbon Fiber as well. It will be a direct bolt up without any modifications. Everything offered will be covered under the factory warranty as well.

Not so much as cheap but doesn't utilize enough underbracing. The use of underbracing is crucial to the stability of the hood itself. Not enough, it's flimsy. Type of sealer coatings are important as well. Some utilize a clear coat finish while others utilize and epoxy resin coating. The Seibon is meant to be painted, not left raw and to flimsy IMO.

I helped a friend with one of these on a previous car he had. The instructions had us remove the underbracing (the thin metal honeycomb) from the OEM hood and attach it the the CF hood replacement. It was time consuming and not easy as it required drilling into but not through the thin material. It seemed sturdy after the bracing was added and super flimsy before. I suspect that this step is usually skipped by most people who just bolt the thing on. Then complain when it bends in the wind.

Autocross is cheap. Track days aren't (and I would advise track day insurance). But by all means look into the SCCA and also look at this website for the SCCA Track Night in America program:
