What's the advantage of this? What can you do in engineer mode? Is there any tuning or other changes you can do?

Yes but you don't want to mess with it. If you change the wrong setting you can brick the head unit. There's not really much you can do with it at all. I've gone thru the menus and setting and there's just no advantage with access. Personally I'd just leave it alone.
