Installed Waze on my phone and now Android Auto does not work on my Veloster. Is there some way to make these apps play nice together?

It should work fine. I have Waze running on my Veloster / Android Auto.
You might try re-installing Waze and give it another try.

Had to uninstall both, re-install Android Auto, re-initialize it on the Veloster, then installed Waze. All working now. Thanks Bosh!
