I almost forget to post this, aFe Takeda has produced a VN Performance model exhaust. Note; it comes with the active exhaust flap and utilizes the OEM Exhaust Valve and be purchased in either plain stainless tip or black;

Mid pipe, axle back and catback available. I'd imagine a VN PP exhaust and intake are not to far off either. All though the mid pipe, can be utilized for the PP.

Makes me wonder if the mid pipe will bolt right up to the stock muffler? If so, there is an improvement right there. It may blow out the rear boxes in the stock muffler eventually but who knows?

Yeah just noticed that the other day. Think it may be for the Performance Package though. In the description it reads (Fitment Note: This item will only fit models equipped with Performance Package) and talks about the factory exhaust valve (Exhaust Valve:This axle-back exhaust system incorporates a factory style exhaust valve which uses the factory exhaust valve motors (not included). These valves help regulate, direct, and control the flow of exhaust gases by opening, closing, or partially obstructing passageways depending on throttle position for maximum performance).
Hoping they release a sound clip soon.

I plan on doing the exact same thing! Definitely wanting to free up all the airflow that I can, but not exactly wanting to straight pipe my car.

I called AFE on Wednesday afternoon and they told me that a video would hopefully be up next week. I gave them my contact information and they said they would let me know when they have a video ready. I will post anything I find out on this thread (if anything), on the off chance that they email me something that hasn't been published on their website yet.

However, they are all at SEMA this week according to the sales guy, so no one is there currently working on the video. Additionally, by the way he spoke on the phone, he made it sound like it wasn't quite ready yet and still under development. I could be wrong, considering the website doesn't say "pre-order" from what I can see, but just my own take on what was said.

I like that! But not sure if I like it enough to spend 1200 bucks. I bet the stock exhaust flows plenty with a better down pipe.

Well get it installed and tell us what you think brother. I have already created a little shopping list of stuff I will be buying after taking possession of my N. This is on the list but I want to hear it first.

I do have an AFe exhaust on my Xterra after crunching the factory exhaust on a rock and closing the tip up against the rear bumper. Great exhaust but did not fit properly out of the box, had to bend one of the mounts a good 1.5" give or take. A few others on the thenewx forum had the same issue, so curious if your just mounts right up and how to works but I would be lying if I say I was not excited.

Also what is with the prices for stuff on this little N? 1K for the catback? The AFE Xterra 3" hi tuck cat back was like $460 give or take. And down pipes.... Holy ****. My DSM down pipe was just over 500 with Vband clamps, $350 for regular DSM flange mounting. Over a K for the N?

Curious to see if prices drop overtime, but I will still pay upfront to have what I want at first, when I want it. With the X I knew what I wanted and actually had over 1,000 lbs of steel in the garage ready to go on her prior to even own the car. The N is shaping up no different, have my list and already picking stuff up for it and Its looking like early April till I take possession. But once I get it, she will be different. The guys at Hyundai were amazed at my X when I went in and asked why I was looking for the N. told them I like something different, after seeing the X they understood.

Defiantly post up your install and a sound clip or dozen if you dont mind Ghost.

No problem. I gotta wait for the weather to get a little better. My N's in storage till early April. I got the exhaust for 20% off around Christmastime. AFE always runs a 20% off sale around then.

X-force has a 4" downpipe for 539.00. I'm gonna go that route. I just want to know if the stock heat shielding hooks up to it? I hope it does... Their mid pipe is only 299 too, it will hook up to the stock exhaust or the AFE as well as their own. It's all stainless too. Less expensive options that will yield great results.

Best regards,

I have had my aFe catback bolted up for a month now. Fitment is 10/10 (at least to me as I like how the tips sit out) and it sounds great. There are issues though with the valved exhaust system.

-For one thing, it's still very loud when the exhaust valve is closed. It drones while driving on the freeway and now, I'm cranking up my music to drone the drone out. I got a borescope in there and there is a huge flaw in this design. There is A HOLE in the middle of the valve... So this isn't just something that I at first thought, installed the magnetic valve module wrong. It's just straight up a design flaw. Went from a the stock quiet to slightly louder to this exhaust that's loud and can be much louder.

-Another thing is when the valve is closed and you're just driving normal, it rattles. At first, is was just the lower RPMs but it kept getting worse. Sometimes, it even rattles at idle and could get worse from here too. Waiting for winter to pass to see what I can do to reduce such a rattle.

Otherwise, I like this catback a lot. It sounds great and looks great. But the issues are quite big and makes it a 50% recommendation in my book. The rattling is especially bad but I'm completely guessing here that it could be because there is barely any pressure applied from the module to the valved system. Going to try something this spring. As for the hole in the valve, I'm hoping my hands are small enough to get some sealant to cover it up. Especially when I put my foot into the right side tip to cover it up, it becomes slightly louder than stock. Would make long drives much more bareable if there wasn't a hole there to begin with.

Thank you for your review. My VN is my daily driver and I do occasionally take longer road trips where I'm not going full tilt. I like the look of the exhaust but a loud droning exhaust when I don't need/want that is a no go for me.

Yea thanks for your input! I know ghost said he just got the axle back so Ghost, if you can let us know how it sounds with just the axle back that’ll be great! I also like loud exhaust but droning would kinda put me off. Especially at $1000+ for the cat back, I love how the stock exhaust sounds when In full N mode but wouldn’t mind going a bit louder
