Here’s my first prototype of a basic easel to hold my phone up horizontally at an angle in the storage cubby. It has a metal plate to hold onto the MagSafe area on the back of the phone, but I might put a MagSafe charger there instead.

Thanks! It’s the 12 Mini but I bet larger ones would fit. I made the back plate separate so I can change its depth. Not sure how many people like to have their phone horizontal, but I often do. (Just wish Apple made the Home screen and Music app offer landscape views.)

The charger would fit if I slid backwards the back plate a little. The cable would hang in front a bit awkwardly. I might want a 90-degree adapter for its plug.

Still mulling over revisions but eventually I’ll post the STL file on Thingaverse.

Thanks! The pictures are a bit flattering (by design); that McIntosh app is buggy so I don’t actually like using it, and the phone is slightly awkward to place and use, but hopefully I can improve it. I see that even if I don’t use a MagSafe charger, Amazon sells magnetic or metal rings that might be good for holding the phone perfectly in place.

Revision 1; now with a spot for my MagSafe charger, which is great at holding the phone down. (It fits tightly but is able to slide up and down for different width phones.) The slot lets the cord out and gives the whole backboard a little spring action that helps clamp down the charging plate; a happy acciden.

I’m thinking I could print a spacer to fill that slot for non-MagSafe phones.

The next revision might include a way to store the cable in back.

Quere: How many people actually use their phones only in landscape mode? For iOS, it’s annoying that Apple makes limits of its native apps, like Music, to portrait mode, while others, like Mail, Safari and iMessage, do both.

My next mod will probably be getting a wireless CarPlay adapter, so I never have to plug my phone into the car. I can just drop it into this mount.
